Mini-Facelift for Women and Men

Mini-Facelift in Chevy Chase & Washington, D.C.

Signs of facial aging begin to appear long before a patient is ready for a traditional facelift. For our younger patients wishing to tighten up sagging skin and restore a more youthful facial appearance, we offer a mini facelift for women and men. Also known as a minimal incision facelift or short scar facelift, a mini facelift procedure is less invasive than a traditional lift. If the procedure is timed properly and performed on a good candidate, it can help patients delay or entirely avoid traditional facelift surgery later.

What Is a Mini-Facelift?

With so many different types of facelift surgery available, it is easy to get confused. What’s the difference between a full facelift and a mini facelift procedure?

Basically, a mini facelift for men and women is a less invasive, less transformative facelift. It works really well for the right patient and offers substantial benefits to those that are a good fit for the procedure, but it isn’t right for everyone. There is a very specific type of patient who is an ideal candidate for this procedure. Compared to a traditional facelift, a mini-facelift offers the following benefits:

  • Fewer and shorter scars
  • Easier recovery
  • More subtle results

Full Facelift vs. Mini-Facelift

Our short scar facelift performed by a licensed and trusted mini facelift surgeon removes less skin than a traditional lift and only addresses certain facial areas, unlike a full lift that rejuvenates most of the face and neck. It is usually performed on younger patients than a traditional facelift.

The Mini-Facelift Procedure

At Capital Facial Plastic Surgery, our goal is to provide each patient with the right treatment, tailored to their unique needs. We don’t adhere to a one-size-fits-all approach because we understand that each patient is unique. They each have their own needs and goals, and their situation varies from that of others. That said, we perform a thorough evaluation of the patient, taking into account their medical history, specific skin condition, physical health, and other such factors critical to the success of the treatment plan.

Important reminders

Please make sure to have someone with you on the day of the surgery. While a mini facelift for men and women is typically an out-patient procedure, having someone to drive you home is strongly advised since you will be given anesthesia, and your senses may not have fully recovered yet after surgery. Additionally, since the surgery will be performed on the face, you may have difficulty going home on your own since you have to be careful not to bump your face into things.

You must likewise assign a caregiver (friend or family member) to look after you for the first couple of days following your surgery to assist you as you heal and recover.

On that note, below is a quick look into what you can expect on the day of the surgery…

There are many variables that impact the techniques used during each surgical procedure we perform. We believe in a customized approach to plastic surgery and tailor our treatment to each patient’s individual needs. To better understand what will happen during your surgery, talk with our resident mini facelift surgeon Dr. Singleton before your procedure. He can give you the best idea of what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

If you’re worried about the procedure or you’re feeling anxious as surgery day nears, don’t worry; Dr. Singleton will be with you every step of the way.

We perform our mini facelift for men and women at an outpatient surgical center, located near our Chevy Chase office. On the day of surgery, you’ll arrive at the surgical center and meet the surgical team. Dr. Singleton will be there, as well as an anesthesiologist and nursing staff. Before we head into surgery, you’ll sit down with Dr. Singleton to review the procedure, goals, and post-operative instructions one final time. We’ll apply pre-operative markings as needed to help us place incisions and remove skin during your procedure.

When you’re ready, you’ll head into surgery where our anesthesiologist will make sure you’re comfortable and prepared for the procedure. You won’t feel a thing during the actual procedure and will comfortably rest while we rejuvenate your look. Dr. Singleton will make incisions, tighten underlying tissues, and remove skin. After the surgical area is bandaged, the nursing staff will monitor you as you come out of anesthesia and prepare to return home. Most mini face lift patients go home the very same day.

Before you leave the surgery center, Dr. Singleton will meet with your caregiver, usually a family member, to discuss the results of your surgery and to provide post-operative care instructions. This caregiver will take you home and remain with you for the first couple of days. You’ll return to see Dr. Singleton so he can check in on your healing the day after surgery.

Recovery After a Mini-Facelift

Recovery after a mini facelift procedure is typically shorter than recovery from a traditional facelift. Patients are often back to work in 1-2 weeks and can resume more strenuous activities within a month.

Common side effects after surgery include tenderness, swelling, and bruising. Pain medications can improve comfort during the recovery process, but most patients do not need any narcotic pain medicines.

One of the best things you can do during recovery is get up and move. For the first day following surgery, we ask patients to take it easy and rest. The next day, we encourage you to take a gentle walk. Movement encourages blood flow which provides healing benefits to the entire body. Gentle walking can dramatically improve the recovery experience.
